Client Advocacy

Expert financial advocacy services

Whilst we cannot provide legal advice or undertake legal proceedings on your behalf, if you’re experiencing financial difficulty and struggling under the weight of debts, we’re here to help. We understand how difficult it can be when you have multiple creditors chasing you for money, and your payments barely seem to cover the interest each month. Our financial advocacy services are designed to help you find debt relief.

How it works

Our financial advocacy/debt management services are all about helping you get on top of your debts without damaging your credit history. We’ll arrange for one of our experienced Case Managers to speak with you and gather all of the necessary information, in order to understand your position and how you came to reach out to Small Village. When you are comfortable, this includes discussing the areas of your life
that have impacted your current position.

In our experience, there are many different factors such as mental health, family relationships, employment and natural disasters, to name a few, that can have a direct impact on our financial situation.

It also involves looking at your current debts, and your financial circumstances as a whole, to determine the best way forward for you. Once we have a clear  understanding of your situation, we negotiate with banks, lenders and other creditors to reduce your debt, waive it completely, or reach a payment plan that works for all parties.

Debt agreements

There are a few different types of debt agreements available to you, however it’s all about finding the right one for you.

We work mostly with Informal Debt Agreements, because there’s no impact on your credit file. We don’t advocate bankruptcy or formal debt agreements that damage your credit history and can potentially cause more stress in the future.

Bankruptcy, formal debt agreements and insolvency agreements can affect your ability to rent a house, get a loan, obtain car finance, and it can even have a detrimental effect on your employment. We don’t want that, and neither do you.

Informal debt agreements or a debt management plans, on the other hand, involve freezing fees and interest on your debts, and reaching a repayment agreement with your creditors that you can comfortably manage.

Credit report repairs

Your credit history is a record of all your credit applications, loans, credit cards and finance deals. A credit report score becomes damaged when you fail to make payments, get behind on your loans or completely default on money you owe. With a bad credit score, it’s difficult to get finance when you need it, and it can also make it hard to rent a house, get a mobile phone plan or have the internet connected at your home.

It’s an extremely troubling position to be in, which is why we work with you to help repair your credit history. We do this by accessing and understanding your credit history, so that we can seek to have inaccurate information removed or improved. It’s important to note that if the negative activity on your credit history is completely accurate, it can’t be removed or repaired. If something isn’t right, though, we’ll do our best to have it repaired.
