Small Village recognises the unique needs of Indigenous Australians. We recognise that therapy, if not offered in a culturally sensitive and respectful manner to Indigenous Australians can cause shame, anxiety and be counterproductive to what we are trying to achieve in the counsellor – client relationship.
We are conscious of this and have an engagement strategy in place to provide education, support and a greater understanding of our services, relative to the cultural needs of Indigenous clients.
Our services zero in on issues which overwhelmingly impact our indigenous clients the most, which include addiction, homelessness, sexual assault, unemployment and mental illness.
Given the cultural sensitivity of issues which impact Indigenous Australians, we have offered some other resources below if you feel they would be a more suitable resource than Small Village, which we completely understand and respect
